The Ilpurla Trail represents an opportunity to make a connection with the indigenous community of Central Australia while accessing beautiful and remote country around Hermannsburg. The walk itself is magnificent, with plans to develop camps and infrastructure by 2012.
The Ilpurla Trail takes you into “another world”, a place where you are invited to be quiet, to listen and to learn. It is country of deep significance and it is in that spirit that you are invited to enter, to enter with a pilgrim’s heart.

Th Ilpurla Trail will develop over the years and grow its own narrative. In it’s initial years it will rely upon people of goodwill to be part of what could develop into one of the great walks of the world, a resource that can regenerate for the local people over the years to come.

The Ilpurla Trail is a long term project that seeks to develop the trail in partnership between a private company, Into the Blue Creative Walks, and the Traditional Owners over whose country the track passes. Extensive training programs, investment in infrastructure and enormous employment opportunities are on offer. The essence of the development is to provide an industry that gives local knowlege a commercial currency, to reinvigorate the practice of walking and to introduce real jobs that allow the local people to remain on their country.

Ultimately, it provides walkers with the chance to spend time with local Aboriginal people around a fire at night and to share that most powerful of human experiences, to walk on country with the original Australians.
